What laptop would have the power to handle CAD programs and give me good battery life. (Student @ ERAU) View All
I am going to attend Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University next year and I have been researching laptops for quite a while. I want one that will give me the processing power and speed to handle quite a few of the programs such as CADs and such, but also want it to be light and have fairly good battery life. Does anyone have any ideas. I am currently thinking about Apple Macbook Pro, Dell XPS, and Asus.

I really wan't something fairly light that also has good battery life. I have narrowed my decision between the Apple Macbook Pro fully loaded and one of the Dell XPS non gaming laptops. Does anyone have any experience using either of these systems for school?

Go with the Dell M6300. Good graphics,WUXGA 1920x1200, lots of power. Available with WinXP x64, that is stable without the demand for more hardware to run the operating system. The computer will have more resources available to run your CAD, Solid modelling or FEA software. This machine is basically a desktop replacement.
