Alert
We have a class working on catia animations and we need tips on creating an animation that includes sub-assemblies. Here is the problem:
When assembling products in CATIA for DMU animation, I haven't figured out how to use sub-assemblies. This means that any part that moves has to be put into the main assembly individually. Parts that do not move can be put in as sub-assemblies, or as rigid bodies linked to each other (using the rigid joint), but moving sub-assemblies can't be imported into the main mechanism. This is because the constraints of the sub-assembly don't recognize the constraints of the main mechanism, so even if you import the sub-mechanism into the main product, the pieces don't move with respect to the constraints in the main assembly. Even though it's a headache to manually join each moving part in the main assembly, as far as I know this is the only way to animate the product as a single mechanism. If someone does know of a way to consolidate joints from a sub-assembly into a single mechanism, I would like to know!
